Christy Chiu Lai Heng
Christy Chiu is currently Chief Executive Officer of IMU College Education Sdn Bhd. She graduated from the Monash University, Australia with BEcons (Accounting) in 1984. She was admitted as a Fellow to CPA Australia in 2006 and has been a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants since 2007.
Upon graduation, Christy returned to Malaysia in 1985 and worked as an audit assistant with KMG Hew and Tan, Kuala Lumpur for two years. For the next six years, she worked with Beca Carter Holdings and Ferner Ltd, Auckland, the largest consulting engineering firm in New Zealand. During this period, she was promoted from an Accountant to Group Accountant and finally to the Head of Department, overseeing the various finance functions of the Group.
In 1992, Christy returned to Malaysia and was employed as the Regional Accountant for Southeast Asia by Jurutera Perunding Beca Carter Sdn Bhd (JPBC), Kuala Lumpur, travelling to various offices in the region. She joined IMU College in 1993. She set up the finance department and was responsible for financial management of IMC until 1996.
For the next three years, Christy was Financial Controller for Batu Tiga Quarry Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of YTL Cement Bhd, Kuala Lumpur.
In 1999, Christy resumed the position as Financial Controller of the Sesama Medical College Management Sdn Bhd (SMCM) including supervision of the Administration and Building Maintenance & Engineering Services.
In 2010, she was appointed project leader for the IMU’s Strategic Plan, ASPIRE where she worked closely with the senior management team, key staff and PwC to craft the Strategic Direction of IMU. She is responsible for the oversight on the implementation of the ASPIRE project.
Christy is married with three children and she spends much of her Sundays teaching primary school children in the Sunday School at her church. She supports her husband in community work for the Residents’ Association and the Parent Teacher Association of their children’s schools.
